How I Celebrated

These aren't name brand fig newtons. They aren't even fig flavor, they are apple. But with hot sauce they are pretty weird. Actually, if they had a bit of spice, I wouldn't mind, I think it was just the vinegar. Someone needs to make a spicy fig newton haha. And of course, my favorite spicy chip is the hot fry. And Nate is in love with fig newtons so that is great. What a good day!

Diet Helpers 

• Sugar Free

  Sugar is probably the reason that drew me to fig newtons as a kid. And since they are not very sweet, they were not my favorite. Here is a sugar free recipe, though I am sure there are plenty that might be closer to resembling the original.
  Luckily spice does not mean sugar, but sugar and spice go together well. I mean, Powerpuff Girls am I right? 

• Gluten Free

  The above recipe is also gluten free (as long as you get the oats that are gluten free/ free of gluten contact).
  Add spice to one of your gluten free recipes and there you go. Simple. 

• Vegetarian

  Fig Newtons are a go. Avoid spicy meats. But you knew that.

History

Punchbowl on Fig Newtons and Hot and Spicy Day

If you are new to cooking with chilies and spice, make sure you check out the scoville scale. Also, be careful. Once I used way too much cayenne when making chili. To my defense, I was in China, and I think their "Chili powder" is really cayenne. Also, while adding the spices, my mouth got used to it. Nate and I were crying during dinner that night. Digestion wasn't all too pleasant either.

Merchandise

Some of my friends used to eat some sauce like this. Why you would buy something that is named after an unpleasant sensation? Why do people always have to go looking for trouble?

• Here are a bunch of spicy restaurants in LA from Discover Los Angeles
• I was thinking of going down to Hot Licks to sample their ghost pepper sauce, but I wanted to live another day
