Almost Samoan style. I couldn't find glass noodles so these are just long rice noodles. Not quite the same, but still very delicious.

Ok. So you all should know by now how much I dislike cherries. I was pleasantly surprised with how small the mini pies (read turnovers) were. Why pies? Cause I'm not Raymond Felton. Also, I have a cold so I didn't taste much! Wahoo!

Yay my banana split was so cute and pretty yum, but the flavors didn't all go together. Mint cookie, cinnamon roll, and chocolate, with banana and chocolate and strawberry topping. In the end, it was just like one big confusing jumble of sugar.

How I Celebrated

To avoid eating too much (and because I like to make things simple), I combined the peach pie and waffle idea and made peach pie waffles. I doctored up the canned peach pie mix with some water and spices like cinnamon and nutmeg and cloves. That plus whipped cream on waffles was pretty darn tasty. BUT I was super disappointed by my waffle maker which made a huge mess and the waffles were not crisp on the outside. Quite upsetting.

So, my cheat for today's dish was just to have ice cream, pistachio pudding and some cherry flavored cranberries on top. It was an interesting mix, but it was pretty good. The strangest thing to me was that the "pudding" ended up not looking very creamy at all, but more gel like.

I was going to do twice baked potatoes, but it was just too hot. Once baked was enough! It has been a while since I had baked potatoes with the fixings, and it was awesome. I just remembered that in China while I was teaching, the 7th graders thought the word potato was really funny. I guess it was just an inside joke I was not part of. If they were calling me a potato, I should have been offended cause I am NOT from Idaho. Also, soft serve from a fast food place always puts a smile on my face!

If you ever wondered about marriage, ice cream pie is a great example of a good one. I was really excited to eat my pie today, but I think we may have gone overkill with the candy. Today we used custard powder to make a much cheaper custard than Ritas last week. It tasted like I thought custard would, the only strange thing was, there are no eggs listed in the ingredients and I thought custard was very heavily an eggy dish. Anyways, it was good.

How I Celebrated

I always enjoy my breaks from the sweets. That is one thing you would never have heard me say before this project. I did not like bratwurst the other couple times that I have had it. It definitely is the seasoning because I like other sausages. Eating it again today only solidified my opinion. I can say I don't hate it, I didn't feel sick when I ate it. The special brat buns were pretty good though. And ketchup makes everything better. Who knows, maybe if I ate brats and ketchup more, I would start to like them like I now like eggs.

How I Celebrated

Making the pie the night before was a good choice to have a cold pie for today. I don't know that I would like this pie hot. We didn't make much meringue, once again, it is pretty hard to make by hand. I approve much more of this canned filling than I have of any other canned filling. Probably because that artificial texture is more expected for lemon meringue and so that plus the flavor did not seem off to me. I would have preferred less sugar though.

The shape of steak that Nate bought was not what I saw as pictures on the net, but maybe that is because the other ones were cut first. Who knows. It was delicious. It is hard to compare it with other steaks because I do not eat steak very often. It is always delicious and Nate is becoming a great personal chef, I gotta tell ya!

How I Celebrated

Nate made a pretty good raspberry tart. All tarts will probably never come close to the ones I had at our tea party in college, but these were easy and tasty. Frozen raspberries and a sour cream concoction over a croissant crust that was baked in a muffin tin. My only complaint is that the frozen raspberries hurt my sensitive teeth.

How I Celebrated

It was not planned, but I think this was the perfect ratio of s'mores for me. They were snack size crackers that fit a fun size Hersheys perfectly and a nice melted jumbo (not the huge huge ones) marshmallow. I used a skewer over our stove. As much as I have been complaining about sweets being almost every day for this project, I really enjoyed this one. It was a perfectly fitting summer treat and I don't know the last time I had an actual s'more. Too bad I don't go camping anymore.

I love rice pudding and I am so glad that I convinced Nate not to put raisins in it. He tried a recipe for the rice cooker. Very much a comfort food.

Rice is dare I say my favorite food. Absolutely cannot get over how delicious rice pudding is. My friend made it for me once and I also had it in Spanish class (arroz con leche). It is, however, significantly harder to make a good consistency with brown rice.

How I Celebrated

Finally we did something a bit different and fun. We checked out a restaurant near by! Rita's! I have to say, it was pretty good, but I know why I don't go out! That was like $4 for a regular size soft serve and it was only a tad bit creamier than other ice cream places. Maybe if I could have a comparison right then and there, but I was really not impressed. How do these people stay in business when there is a Menchie's just down the way? Anyhow, then I tried to make some zucchini noodles. I went for Asian spices, but I think I probably would have been better off doing Italian tomato or cream based. I just felt like I was eating pickled vegetables like China all over again. Veggies are such a disappointment.

My day seems to have been sandwiched with disappointing things. First, the whole health insurance nonsense, and second, a very sad food day. I know it says clams but I have heard that clams are the same thing as oysters. Anyhow, I think there was already an oyster day and I had the same thing so at least I wasn't expecting it to be good.

How I Celebrated

I had another ice cream sandwich with those leftover chocolate chip cookies, but I didn't film it because talk about repeats, boring right? So I tried out those simply made keebler ones. They pretty much taste like those shortbread cookies with chocolate chips in them. Hardly what a simply home made chocolate chip cookie would taste like, and a far cry from chips ahoy. Don't know if that is what they were going for, but calling it a chocolate chip cookie is a bit misleading.
