How I Celebrated

I wouldn't usually call Trader Joe's cheap, but this is probably the best place to get pre-made, boxed and frozen macarons. They were very rich and hard to eat even one by yourself. I loved the butterscotch flavor though.

How I Celebrated

We had a strange schedule today so we needed to find a place open 24hrs to get burgers. That meant fast food and the only ones nearby were Carl's Jr. And Jack in the Box. We went to Carl's, no clear preference since we don't eat out much. Their double cheeseburgers were under 3 bucks so we got a couple of those and a spicy chicken and some fries. That spicy chicken saved me because I was super pissed at how many onions were on there. Sure, it is my fault for not liking onions and also not asking them to not put them on, but really, I just forgot. A hamburger is a rare thing in my life, and I only took one bite this time. Stupid onions.

I finally used my popsicle molds this year. They aren't the best, I mean what kind of quality do you expect from the dollar store, but because I also got grape "juice" from there, it probably has the same nutritional value as any of your off the shelf of your regularly priced grocer. As always, a great treat. And as always, Molly dripped on herself. I'm telling you I can't have anything nice and it's my own fault.

How I Celebrated

I have to say, I was hyping myself up for this day for a long time just thinking about how good clams and muscles are and why should snails be any different? Some recipes even looked good. Well, I think most of it was mental. They smelled a little weird, but they also smelled kind of good. The texture wasn't different than I was expecting, slightly chewy just like clams, but I think looking at them is also not very appetizing. If you bite into them, they look all veiny like chicken tendons (the part of chickens that grosses me out cause it is way too stringy). But, if you just pop them in your mouth with a few other things and imagine a cooked mushroom (cause they are black) then it isn't too bad. I didn't throw any away from my bowl, still I probably wont eat the leftovers in the fridge.

Besides the fact that they are probably laced with garden chemicals, I am surprised we do not try to consume them more often here in America if they are seen as pests AND if they are really good for you. Especially if they are similar to clams at all, since seafood is so expensive.

How I Celebrated

I risked it. I used a devil's food cake mix from the store. Not that they are bad, but I really wanted to make something as delicious as a chocolate version of angel's food. It is just not the same! I tried a few tricks like using coconut oil instead of vegetable oil (well that is just because that is the only oil I cook with now). And half an extra egg and milk instead of water. I swear it was just the same as any chocolate cake mix I have ever had.

How I Celebrated

Remember the different ways people would eat a Reese's commercials? Yeah, I never came up with an interesting way to eat mine. So the cheese souffle I made was pretty easy besides whipping my egg whites. That always tires me out.  Anyhow, it looked so good even though it didn't puff up as much as I thought it would. It also shrunk pretty soon after (maybe 10 min or so). I used the fake parmesan  powder cheese stuff, which might be what they wanted (instead of flour), but nothing beats the freshly grated stuff. Well, I also don't know how great it was since it was my first time. Everyone on the internet seems to rave about it, but it was just a more fluffy in between of quiche or scrambled eggs. I guess I just was thinking it was going to be amazing like the chocolate souffle, but chocolate is a hard food to beat.

I made the recipe for what all recipe claimed were the best chocolate chip cookies. They were pretty easy and they are really soft. It also helps that I used ghiradelli's bittersweet huge chips. Very chocolatey and rich. For the pizza, it was a frozen krouger pizza that Nate added some toppings to. He became in charge after he couldnt figure out what he wanted to do since Papa Johns has to suck and take your money from late online orders, never delivering their pizza.

How I Celebrated

I don't know how they can say that apple pie was made with any real fruit at all, the filling was so dark brown and dry. Worst idea ever. The hummus was pretty great though. I think Nate seasoned some of the canned hummus we keep on hand.

History

 Punchbowl
It looks like if you want a more authentic pie closer to the real recipe, you could actually make fruit cocktail pie because the old one had a ton of fruits along with the apple. Oh yeah and who eats apple pie with cheese? Weird.

How I Celebrated

I made a "simple" fudge that did not require sweetened condensed milk. It did however call for a candy thermometer which I do not have. So I kind of winged it and hoped for the best. It is a bit melty, but straight out of the fridge, it is everything you expect of fudge.

How I Celebrated

I was pretty excited to have an easy no prep day as well as something tasty to make up for yesterday. Cupcakes were never my favorite hostess treat, but I will say I like them more than other store bought bakery ones with heaps of frosting on top. Being filled with cream is a plus, but I know that is more popular in bakeries now. I think that hostess missed a chance to fill them with peanut butter frosting though, pair up with reeses!

How I Celebrated

Man this was more a mental feat than a tasting problem. Nate thought I would have a hard time with the texture, but it really was that I knew that the liver is the body's filter so, I'm basically eating stuff a chicken's liver filtered out. Disgust! It smelled really good while Nate was cooking it, but I really couldn't eat more than one bite. I didn't spit it out though! Oh and it made a huge mess reheating in the microwave and I think that made it super dry.

I have to say, I am afraid to taste liver, it just sounds gross, it is always prepared with onions, and I heard it isn't very good for you either.

How I Celebrated

I never liked blondies as much as brownies, but I was excited for some butterscotch flavor. The morsels are so much more rich than the  homemade butterscotch topping. It came out a little crumbly, and I still have to say I like regular brownies better. Oh and a few explanations, the pan is mostly empty because I made them to bring to my aunt's for mother's day, and that is the reason I look so hash. I was up during my usual sleep time and tried to take a nap when I got home. How about a round of applause for Nate waking up to that sleeping beauty hahaha.
