How I Celebrated

I always thought that fruity drinks were delicious and when I saw Mai Tai on my menu, I thought I was just going to have a bunch of juice. Turns out I got to use that orange blossom water to make something called orgeat syrup. It is very fragrant. It makes the juice taste different for sure. I don't hate it. Oh and I had no idea what a bomb pop was until I searched it. We got a different brand because it was like a fourth of the price. WTF bomb pops?

How I Celebrated

Making ceviche is almost like making poke and so I was very excited. Except, I did not "cook" the fish in the lime because I used imitation crab to avoid having to marinate it for 4+hrs. Very delicious. I also went for a quick snack pack of tapioca pudding (one of my favorite desserts). I really like tapioca in general, so it would have been too hard to decide on another tapioca dish anyways.

How I Celebrated

We found a good priced bottle of orange blossom water and were going to try a fruit salad with some of it. We just did some apples with sugar and some spices and that water is WAY too strong. I felt like I was eating soap. Then Nate got the awesome idea to drink some by itself. I told him I didn't think that sounded smart, but he wanted to walk around dry heaving haha. Good luck my people.

Nate had a simple parfait waiting for me when I got home. I was kind of scared because he had bought what the container called a "gel strawberry parfait". Not the most appetizing of titles. Well, he put some in and it basically was jello that is not too sweet and a bit more stiff. It was alright with the whipped cream and fresh strawberries.

How I Celebrated

The Brach's candies were in case we didn't find pralines elsewhere because the basic definition of a praline is a confectionery with at least nuts and sugar. So candied nuts. And that's what they are. They aren't very good. Nate went grocery shopping and had a tough time even finding pralines and cream ice cream. I always see Baskin Robin's and wonder how they are still around, but I guess the reason is because they are pretty much the only ice cream company in grocery stores that still use the word "praline". (You can't prove me wrong 'cause you weren't there).

How I Celebrated

I don't like onion rings so it is a good thing I didn't spend a lot on them. However, when you go cheap frozen food, you are in for some interesting surprises. I don't know if there was a real onion in these at all. They smelled very onion-y, but there was really nothing that resembled an onion inside the breading. I didn't even eat a whole one, because why make your breath smell over something you don't even enjoy? Nate made some "easy eclairs" by baking some croissant dough into flat squares, then layering them with pudding/ whipped topping mix. On the very top he spread some of the leftover chocolate fudge that never really set as fudge. Yay Sugar!

I loved that ice cream was part of two of the foods. Classic root beer float with Krouger  vanilla bean ice cream and Shasta root beer and a milkshake. After I filmed myself having some of the vanilla milk shake, I did add some berries to it. Not that I don't appreciate vanilla, but berries sounded really good.

I found a virgin martini recipe/ blog post this one time and so I just did that! Ice, green olive, and mineral water. I'm not a huge green olive fan, so it probably would have been less wasteful if I had a martini glass. Afterwards I had a glass of mineral water with vanilla, truvia, and strawberries. Pretty tasty. How I Celebrated

Nate got fresh cherries just in time, but he could have just put them on top. He cooked the cherries with the cream cheese filling, so it was more of a cherry cream pie/ cheesecake, but you know, still super delicious. Still pretty tart. I miss the tarts I had at my college tea party those years ago. My friend is a pretty good baker. Also, Nate went fancy with some grilled cheese. What makes it apply to cheesmaker's day is that I have been to the Tillamook factory where they make the cheese and we bought some Tillamook sharp cheddar. Nate made the sandwiches extra fancy with monterey jack, and asiago.

Nate made me a delicious Asian chicken salad for lunch (similar to the packs from I think Costco). I definitely ate all my veggies today. Also, for apple strudel, Nate made one with pie crust so it tasted more like a McDonald's apple pie. I'm not complaining, I just picture toaster strudel and how flaky it is.

How I Celebrated

The fudge is kinda goopy, it didn't want to set, but of course it still tastes really good. I don't know what recipe Nate used, but we used bittersweet chocolate left over from the brownies we made last week. I really like the rich chocolate flavor and I like the coconut topping the best (the pretzels got a bit soggy). And of course, carrot sticks and celery for my fresh veggies. While I was eating the celery, I was thinking I really wanted to look at it under a microscope. I can't remember if I had ever seen plant cells under a microscope. Just a little peep into my brain.

How I Celebrated

I was really excited for this because I didn't know Nate got me an egg roll and I have been craving Americanized Chinese food for some time. Unfortunately, microwaving food is not the most uniform way of heating things. The outside seemed quite cool, but after biting into the middle, it was like lava entered my mouth. I can't tell you how it tasted because I couldn't taste anything. My mouth still tastes awful like I am constantly licking a scab. And now since you are no longer hungry either, I am satisfied with my entry.

I may have had lobster all of once. Very expensive for not a lot of meat. Very delicious, yes, but it leaves the belly and the wallet lacking. How crazy that you used to be able to just pick lobsters up at low tide! I guess I haven't been to the East Coast, but I bet it isn't so easy anymore.

How I Celebrated

Nate made my strawberry shortcake all pretty. It has always been one of my favorite desserts because it is so easy and so delicious. Strawberries with a bit of sugar, whipped cream all on top of some pound cake (I would have preferred angel food cake, but it was still awesome).

How I Celebrated

Trying to avoid having a ton of sweets in the house, we attempted a small "cupcakes for two" recipe. It came out to be really dense more like a bread instead of a cake (like banana bread). It was still good and not too sweet. We used this flavored soy milk since we had not been shopping for regular milk yet. That may have been part of the problem, but the person who posted the recipe said they used almond milk and it was just fine. It was alright, just not how I would picture a cupcake.

How I Celebrated

A quick stop at Wal Mart during our road trip home was perfect for today's food holiday, and today's food holiday happened to be awesome for snacks. Great value brand beef jerky and some nutter butter wafers! They were pretty big. I was not expecting them all to be connected like that. There was no prepared falafel, I don't know if I looked in the right place. It also could be we were not in the right area that had demographics that cares for falafel.

Ok, so it isn't cake. There had been so many desserts and there were a ton of desserts already being made for the party we went to. So we repurposed a gluten free brownie as German chocolate cake with some of the best frosting in the world.

How I Celebrated

Well, another late post due to crazy vacation schedules and extreme laziness. Yesterday Nate took a trip to the dollar store while I was napping with a cat to get the Arnold Palmer iced tea and chocolate ice cream to have with the shasta cola for my black cow, The black cow was very chocolatey, I didn't really taste the cola because the ice cream kinda melted cause the soda was not very cold. All still sugary goodness though. Not impressed with the tea. I'll stick to mate.

We were not sure how easy it would be to get a strawberry rhubarb pie on a whim, but we actually found it at a few places and decided to go with the cheaper one from Shari's. As much as I like to support small businesses, I like Shari's better because the crust was more even and flaky, and the pie was not super tart. Very good balance.

How I Celebrated

I have heard of people using applesauce as a substitute for oil or butter in a cake, but not really ever a cake centered around applesauce. It was pretty tasty even though the texture was not very cake like. I also was kind of full from earlier festivities so it was not very easy to enjoy. We even tried to make a quarter size of the recipe. That may have been part of the problem with baking it, we had to guess on time and there was extra egg (how do you split an egg in half?)
